  • Stemmed Searching

A feature I would find highly desireable is stemmed searching. So for example searching for 'eating' would return results for eating, eats, eat and so on. I realize that synonyms take care of some of this need, but identifying synonyms for all of these types of variations would be exhaustive.

    Thanks!

This has been suggested in the past and is one of many things on our evergrowing list of things to consider for a future version.

One concern is our support of various languages besides English, making it not as obvious to implement.

Second, is that we do not rely on a language dictionary, and Zoom creates a dictionary from the words found on your website. This has many advantages in itself (eg. spelling suggestions for any words is possible, important for technical documentation, names, etc. as opposed to only words recognized by the Oxford dictionary for example), but the disadvantage is we do not identify words as nouns or adjectives, etc. Meaning that the level of stemming possible would be fairly dumb - it may consider "car" the same as "caring" or "cared", etc. Not to say that it is not possible, but as usual, user demand and technical difficulty is how we gauge the importance of a feature.

We have added Stemming support for the upcoming V6 release which will address the above issue. Please see this thread for information.
