Images as a search category

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I can't find specifics about this possibility. Can *.jpg be set-up as a search category such that a thumbnail gallery of images (appropriately set-up in the config of course) could be produced as search results?

Yes, you can create a category with a match pattern of ".jpg" and it will be restricted to .jpg URLs.
