template page has no search form

Just wondering if anyone can tell me why the search_template.html that is generated by the indexer contains no search form ... when it appears from what I've read that there should be one?

I know I can put one there but I'm wondering if there is something about this template that I'm not getting?

This is normal. The form is generated by the script when it runs. See also this FAQ question
