Hello,

I have purchased the Zoom Search Engine 4.1 that I am planning to use for a corporate intranet. A big chunk of the files are .xls and Zoom isn't reading them for some odd reason. I thought that it was the server's fault because it is read-only, but that shouldn't matter. I tested this out anyway and copied everything over to a local machine (so everything would be editable) and it is still coming up with the same error.

The excel files are made in Excel 2000 sp3.

[XLS plugin error] Failed to convert XLS file due to format or read error.
XLS plugin failed. File not scanned.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Your XLS files may contain password protected worksheets or workbooks. Open the file in Excel and click on Tools -> Protection to check if this is the case.

Turns out that if I remove a graphic (logo) out of the excel files, it reads properly (strange?).

E-mail us a copy of the XLS file with the graphic intact which doesn't index (and a copy of the XLS file which indexes properly), and we can take a closer look.
