Specifying Filetypes

I just got up and running a few days ago and it is a great product. My only question is how can I specify the file type I want during the search. I know I can create catagories but if I want to say just pick up excel documents in my search can I type something in the search box that will specify that?

If you are indexing file names, then you can use a wild card search.

e.g.

*.xls
*.doc
