  • Chilisoft ASP

The last days I have tried to get Zoom Search ASP (latest version) to work.

After much dialog with the webhosts support, I discovered that their asp is Chilisoft ASP (4.0).

Does anybody have tried (and succeded) with installing on Chilisoft?

Chilisoft is missing the "VBObjects" that are used by ASP. So it was never fully compatible with the orginal Microsoft ASP implementation.

Chilisoft was maintained by a software company. But a hardware company called Cobalt Networks acquired Chilisoft a few months prior to being themselves acquired by Sun.

Chilisoft ASP got renamed to "Sun ONE Active Server Pages" and then renamed it again to "Sun Java System Active Server Pages", which is rather bizarre in itself as ASP doesn't really have anything to do with Java. Sun then terminated the entire product.

So as you can see in the Sun FAQ it is now hopelessly out of date. They are still saying, for example, that it might support Windows 2003, if Microsoft released it.

And the official word from Sun is now the following quote.
Sun Java System Active Server Pages (Sun ASP) has entered it's End Of Life process. Key dates for the EOL process are:
Last Order Date June 08, 2007
Last Ship Date: September 07, 2007
Users of Sun ASP are encouraged to begin evaluating alternative server-side scripting technologies.

As Sun ASP as effectively been dead for a couple of years now, it doesn't make any sense to try and get our software working with it.
