  • only picking up first word of title specified in .desc

We're using .desc files to provide specific titles and descriptions. The index appears to be picking up only the first word of the title in the .desc file. It does not appear to be using the description specified in the .desc file. We have enabled .desc files via IIS (as text/html) and have confirmed that they are being served. Any idea what might be going on?

You might have an invalidly formatted .desc file, or perhaps you have some unexpected characters in your title. Or perhaps there is an issue with how your webserver is sending the .desc file (i presume you are using Spider mode). Can you post us a URL to the .desc file so we can take a look? You could also e-mail it to us (zoom [at] wrensoft [dot] com)

      Ray,

I've emailed you some info to use for testing. We've checked the .desc format and it looks fine. We are using spider mode.

As a follow-up to this thread, we have investigated the issue further with the original poster and we currently believe that it is not a problem within Zoom. The site in question uses a custom content managment system, and the cause of the above problem was due to some site issues that led to incorrect files/URLs being indexed, in place of the ones that the original poster expected.
