  • Links open office docs in native application window

    Hello,

Is there a way for me to have the links generated by Zoom search results open files in their native application?

e.g. an Acrobat file on cookie dough opens in a separate Acrobat window instead of embedded in the browser. Same for word, powerpoint and excel.

    Thanks!

AFAIK, this is not something that can be controlled by Zoom (or any web page) and it is up to the browser and application settings on the client computer.

Acrobat has a setting in their Preferences window, under "Internet" and you can uncheck the "Display PDF in browser" box.

Not sure what the equivalent is for Word (DOC), Powerpoint (PPT), etc. I think in IE, there's an option to "Browse in same window." which you can turn off in the File Type properties for each file.

Again, note that these settings need to be applied on the client computer for them to have effect.

There may be possible Javascript/ActiveX workarounds to hijack your users' settings and force certain behaviour, but this is generally not recommended. You may also be able to get around this by setting your web server to use a different MIME type.

Try a Google Groups search for "opening PDF and DOC files in native application" for more information.

Note that you can force all search results from Zoom to open in a new browser window (Configure -> Search Page -> Results linking -> New window), but not in their native applications.
