  • New build of PPT plugin released & Known issues with PowerPoint 2007

    Hi all,

We have just released a new build of the PPT plugin which you can download from here:
    http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/plugins.html

This fixes a bug which was causing the plugin to fail on some files (with Zoom reporting "PPT plugin failed. File not scanned." or similar).

Please download this latest build if you are having trouble indexing PPT files.

On a related note, we have been looking at Microsoft's new Office 2007 suite of products which introduces a range of new file formats such as PPTX, DOCX and XLSX.

These file formats are not currently supported for indexing by Zoom. However, we are working on a new Office 2007 plugin which will allow users to index these file formats in the future.

One other notable issue is with PowerPoint 2007, which allows users to save in a "PowerPoint 97-2003 compatible" PPT format. While this option allows you to create PPT files using PowerPoint 2007 which will open in earlier versions of PowerPoint; the files themselves are significantly different and are causing problems in various third party products, including Zoom's PPT plugin. We are currently investigating this issue. At this point, the content in PPT files created with PowerPoint 2007 may not be indexed by Zoom, and we hope to have a solution for this as soon as possible (we are waiting for Microsoft to get back to us on some technical specifications).

There is currently no known issues with "Word 97-2003 compatible" DOC files created with Word 2007 and "Excel 97-2003 compatible" XLS files created with Excel 2007.
