How Zoom works

The following is a brief HTML tour of how you can add a search engine to your website, using the Zoom Search Engine package.

The spider start URL is the location where the spider will begin its crawl. You can also use Offline mode to index files on your local hard disk, independent of links. Index your site using the Zoom Indexer from any desktop Windows computer.

Zoom will scan through
all the pages of your site, and create a set of index data files for your search engine.

Zoom can FTP upload files to your web server. It will remember your settings and can be configured to automatically upload after every indexing.

Once the data files are generated, you can upload them to your website using Zoom.

Alternatively, you can copy them over to a CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or local Intranet server.

Now open up your online search page in your favourite web browser and you will find your new website search engine, ready for action!

You can customize everything from the colors, fonts, and layout of the search page, to the messages that appears for certain searches and results.

You can also fine-tune the indexer to suit your site via a user friendly configuration GUI. No script hacking required!

Continue the tour - If you are running Zoom on a webserver, you can also log all the searches made by the people visiting your website, and generate HTML statistic reports such as "Top 10 searches" for the week, month, or year. Click here to find out more.
