  • Trial Version: File Size Limit Exceeded

Just installed the trial version of Zoom Search Engine 5.1. Can't get it to index
our site due to the following message:

Could not download file: http://www.[domain].com/index.html (File size limit exceeded).

Tried to change the max. file size indexed in the Configure > Limits menu but it appears that doesn't work on the trial version. Or is there any way around this with the trial version as nothing gets indexed?

If we purchase a license, it with either be for the Enterprise Edition or the MasterNode engine (standalone version). Does its trial version have the same limitation?

    Please advise.

    Thank you. -- Rik

The free edition of the software has some limitations.

In particular the free edition will only index HTML pages smaller than 100KB.

Having said that it is unusual for HTML pages to be larger than 100KB (especially when this 100KB excludes the size of included images and other objects).

If you need to index pages larger than 100 KB in size, you need to purchase the Standard Edition (or better).

If you wish to use the Free Edition of Zoom to try out its functionality before buying, you can always ask Zoom to start indexing from some other pages of your site which are not so big. It will not index the pages that are over the file limit, but it will index everything else below it. And as mentioned before, most pages are not over 100 KB when we are considernig just the HTML file (no images, etc.)

Do you mean the trial version of MasterNode? MasterNode itself does not do any indexing. The standalone version of MasterNode will need to work with an existing copy of Zoom.

There is a package which you can purchase which includes 5 copies of Zoom with the MasterNode software, but there is no trial version of that.

The trial MasterNode download is only a trial of the standalone package. As it does not do any indexing, this question is not really relevant (i.e. there isn't the same limitation, because it doesn't even index files at all).

Thanks to both of you for your clarifications. We'll go ahead and make a purchase now.

Looking forward to giving this a try. -- Rik

ps: I'd suggest removing the trial 100k page limit in this era of higher bandwidth, etc. Not all of us are concerned with low-bandwidth users. I remember a similar argument back when we were using 2400 baud modems (no one should be using a 10k page).
