  • global query - return all pages?

Another search engine I work with automatically indexes the first and last words of the document. The search 'xfirstword' returns all the documents in the index.

Any suggestions on a search to use on zoom that would return all the docs in the index?

Zoom also indexes the first and last words in a document (and all the word in the middle as well). But I think I might have mis-understood what you mean by this.

You can search for ** to get every page. But it isn't very efficient and leads to a slow search. We are looking at a more efficient way to returning all pages, regardless of what words are on the page, for the next release.

A more efficient work around would be to include a word on every page, maybe in the meta data. Then search for this word, and every page would be returned.
