  • Restricted Indexing to one folder

I need to restrict indexing and searching to one specific folder on my website.

All files in that folder, and all files/folders under it, should be indexed and searchable, but no other files in any other folders.

Can zoom V5 handle this requirement?

Yes, in fact this is the default bahviour. Assuming you are using Spider mode. If you start indexing at this URL,
    http://www.examplesite.com/folder1/folder2/index.html
then the base URL will be,
    http://www.examplesite.com/folder1/folder2/

Then only files in /folder2/ and deeper will be indexed.

      Excellent!

Pushing the envelope a little further, is it possible to nominate two or more directories (at the same level in the tree structure) that are the only ones to be searched (including all files/folders under each)?

You can specify the directories to exclude via the Skip List. So you could nominate specific directories for indexing by excluding the others.

If you wish to index all files under a directory, as opposed to relying on crawling page links, you should use Offline Mode. You will need a copy of your website on your local computer to do this, but it will be much faster.

If your website has server-side scripting however, you will need to use Spider Mode and depend on crawling links.

More information on these modes and inclusion/exclusion of folders etc. can be found in our Users Guide.
