  • pdf plugin problem - indexer dies without error message

I am trying to index a site with a number of pdf files in it, but somewhere along the line, the pdfs cause the indexer to die.

Even when I use the debugging mode and look at the log file, I can't figure out what is going on.

I have been adding more and more pdfs to the list of files to skip, but the indexer is taking a while to run and I need a quicker solution.

Here is a listing of the last lines before the latest crash:

    Queued URL: http://www.si-instruments.com/files/catalog/Download Centre/KSM/Operating Manuals/kistler_staiger_mohilo_supply_and_evaluation_instr ument_umv_2000_4700_manual.pdf
Skipping http://www.fnuky.com.au/ (External site - does not match base URL)
DL Thread #2, got URL (http://www.si-instruments.com/files/catalog/Download Centre/DCI/Product Brochures/dci_vcc_1010_leak_detection_system.pdf) off queue
    Downloading file http://www.si-instruments.com/files/catalog/Download Centre/DCI/Product Brochures/dci_vcc_1010_leak_detection_system.pdf
    DL Thread #2, got URL (http://www.si-instruments.com/files/catalog/Download Centre/KSM/Operating Manuals/kistler_staiger_mohilo_assembly_monitoring_system_ dmfp_v3_manual.pdf) off queue

Are you using the old V4 copy of the software (as you are suggesting by posting in this forum? the V5 forums are over here).

If this is the case, you may want to upgrade to V5. There has been many bugs fixed (and many features added) since V4. The latest version is available here.

If you are using V5 and you posted here by mistake, make sure you have the latest build. Check this by clicking on Help->About.

Does it always crash on the same file? Can you describe the behaviour of the crash (does the Indexer continue indexing or stop, does the Indexer window disappear, etc.)

We have just tested indexing the URLs given above with the latest build, and did not experience any crashes or errors.

Yes, I am using version 4.2.

I know what build I am using (1012) but wasn't sure where to look to find out if it was the latest one. Can you direct me to that?

The indexer window disappears when the error is encountered, and it always happens on the same file (until I put the file name into the configuration skip list).

The final release for V4.2 is build 1013. You can find it here. If you want you can upgrade to V5 here.

Okay, I tried that and it works fine on my local machine, but on the Windows 2003 Server machine, it still bugs out.

I tried un-installing Zoom completely and installing it again, as well as starting a fresh configuration file, but no joy.

          I'm currently getting a pdf plugin error about a protected file, namely http://www.si-instruments.com/files/catalog/Download Centre/KSM/Operating Manuals/kistler_staiger_mohilo_programmable_display_unit_s tm_702_manual.pdf

Zoom should just skip over that and continue normally, right?

Also, where would I get build 1013 of the Debugging version of the Indexer?

See also this post for problems with the old V4 of Zoom on Windows 2003 with SP2 with the DEP setting enabled. We stopped development on V4 almost 2 years ago now and no longer really support it.
