  • Problems with Categories

We also noted a problem we are experiencing with the categories feature in Zoom 6.0.

We have about 20 categories set up, and are having a problem with the category which is listed in position 8 in the category list (excluding the 'All').
The search engine finds related results from that category when viewing 'All' results and the category appears in the 'Category' drop down menu.
If you click on that category in the drop down it returns no results and the position 8 category link does not appear in the 'Refine your search by category:' list.
We have checked the paths in the category list and tried a few different orders for the categories and every time the category which is sitting in position 8 goes missing.

As we run a site that release once a month we have had to use a quick fix to get round this problem.
We have had to add a blank item in position 8 i.e. '---------'
If you want to have a look to establish what I mean, the updated site (http://www.aof.mod.uk) will be live tomorrow (01/05/2009).

I have searched the forum to find any related problems and not been able to find anything similar

We are using Zoom in 'Offline mode' on as ASP platform using IE 6 to test.

    Thanks

    Andy

I just looked at the site there just then, and it's using V4.2. Is this because the updated search isn't live yet? Or are you mixing files from an older index unknowingly?

Ignoring the above, it sounds like the page in question might actually not be indexed as part of that category. Are you sure it is categorized as you think? When it shows up in the search results for your "All" search, you should see the category it belongs to next to the result link in square brackets. Does this correspond to the category you expect it to be in?

      Problems with Categories

      Ray

It is quite difficult to explain the problem that I am having with categories on the Live AOF site as the blank category we have put in makes it very difficult to illustrate.

      If you look at:

      http://aof.mod.uk/indexSearchTest.htm

If you do a search for "Four", there are 66 results returned.
Note that term 1 (URL: ../tactical/risk/content/four_stage.htm) is within the "Risk Management" category. This is not stated in brackets at the end of the item [] as with all the other categories and does not appear in the "Refine your search by category" area. The "Risk Management" category does appear in the Category drop down and if selected and researched - no results are returned.

Please see screen shot of the Categories set up:

As i said in the original post, this happens with whichever category is positioned on line 8.

If you need to look at any of the .zdat files, they are in:

      http://aof.mod.uk/aofcontent/searchTest

I have also put the Test config file in that folder:

      aofLiveCatsTest.zcfg

      Thanks

The fact that it does not have the [] label appear after it, would indicate to me that the file was not categorized into "Risk Management" as you are expecting.

First thing to do however, is update to the latest build. I noticed you are using an older build, and there have been changes in this area which might have solved your problem. Go to this page to download the latest release: http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/whatsnew.html

We can't get to these files. Your server is not configured to serve files with ".zcfg" or ".zdat" extensions evidently and it reports them as 404 File Not Found (most IIS servers refuse to serve MIME types it does not recognize until you add them to their list). Not to mention we'd also need your "settings.asp" and "search.asp" file.

You might want to ZIP up all the required files and e-mail them to us if you still have a problem using the latest build.
