would be nice to use phrases in synonyms. It's kind of boring typing out long phrases and I'd like to be able to search using abbreviations for certain commonly used phrases.

small silly thing, instead of dull this search took .2 seconds, have an option to talk up the search a bit. ie search of 792 pages on 258 sites took .213 seconds. Boilerplating would be nice, so users could call in a blurb like 'This search engine searches 792 hand picked pages from 258 ecclesiastical sites'. ie playing more to the strength it's a niche search engine which isn't drowned by bad results like google

Maybe this could be for a new plug-in but the possibility to OCR text out of an image and then be able to search on it could be pretty nice. May need to bring in a 3rd party OCR engine?

I have looked in the documentation and also searched the forums but can't find if this has been discussed/suggested already:

When a search using multiple terms is used (Zoom 6), with the Match any search words option, is it possible, or would you consider adding the option, to limit the initial list of results to only those that match all search words, if any, but have a More results ... link at the bottom of the results to allow the user to see the results that matched only some, not all of the terms. If no results match all terms, then just default to list that gives all the results.

Using a post from 2010 as an example, http://www.wrensoft.com/forum/showth...needed-results

I would like to see only the 12 results found containing all search terms with an link at the bottom to show the 234 results found containing some search terms. But if no pages have both money and order, then just show the results. I realize users could manually do this themselves by doing the first search and if nothing is returned changing the option to match any. Just thought this would be a nice/simple feature to add to z7 if not present in z6.

            Thank You,
            Nancy

Yes this would be nice. We have made a note of it. I don't think it would impact many people however as the rel=nofollow links are almost always pointing to external web sites, and those sites are automatically filtered by default by the indexer in any case. Also note that we already support the page wide robots nofollow tag.

Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure if it makes sense to return only the results that had all search words when the user selected the option to have any search words. The results that match multiple words are already sorted to the top of the results.

Would be nice to add rich snippet rating stars from the page against the search result for the page

With respect to Context Descriptions, apply beginning ellipse only when the first character of the Context Description is not capitalized as well as applying ending ellipses only when the last character is not a period.

Perhaps some support for cleaning up of orphan punctuation and letters at the beginning and end of the Context Descriptions as well. I.e. clean breaks between words, instead of the middle of a word. Eliminate beginning and trailing commas and other extraneous orphan punctuation marks, except of course trailing periods.

Not aware of the context description breaking up the middle of a word. Do you have an example?

But good ideas about the ellipses and other punctuation marks at start/end of context descriptions that we will put on our list.

Mid-word breaks occur when at the maximum Context Description size. I think that is about 255 characters.

Many years ago we wrote this standard answer to this question of indexing all the web.

a useful feature would be : search for unequal items. for instance : zip codes > nnnnn, mountain heights > mmmm meters, etc.

You can achieve this already in V6 using the Custom Meta Fields feature.
                              http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/support...ta_fields.html

Note the "Search criteria method" allows you to select "Greater than", "Less than", etc.
