  • Indexing PDF Bookmarks

I am developing a website that will contain thousands of books as pdf format from scanned documents.

Inside each pdf file, I have created bookmarks (to refer users to various topics in each book..etc), as well as metadata like keywords.

Zoom search V6 can detect all my pdf files, and the metadata. However, it is unable to detect any bookmark.

So when i search for any topic name I don't get any results.

Is there a way to get Zoom Search to see the pdf bookmarks?

Zoom doesn't support PDF bookmarks at the moment. Like most non-Adobe products, Zoom (and most search engines) uses a package called XPDF to extract the content from the PDF file. And at this point it doesn't seem to support bookmarks. We are not aware of their plans to add bookmark support.

I am also not sure how wise this idea is, given that even in the latest version of Acrobat Reader X, there is no support for bookmarks. If your site is dependent on this feature, then a large percentage of your user base may not be able to see these bookmarks and navigate as you intended.
