  • Results Missing Unless File Extension Included in Search

When I search for the words included in a file name the file doesn't show up in the results. When I add the file extension (last word of file name.xls) the file shows up in the results. I've set file name weighing to +5 but I know that isn't the issue because the file should be included in the results to begin with and it isn't.

So far I have found this happening with a .xls and a .pdf file. Any help will be appreciated.

This is because you have Dots enabled for joining words under "Configure"->"Indexing options"->"Indexing word rules".

This causes a word like "Hello.pdf" to be indexed as a single word.

If you uncheck "Dots" from this option, the above filename will then be indexed as two words: "Hello" and "pdf" and will yield results for both.

You will need to re-index for this change to take effect.

You can consider the same issues for other characters such as hyphens and underscore characters if they are also common in your filename, e.g. "Fred_Jones-My_Document.pdf"
